Man arrested after fatal house fire

A man has been arrested after a fatal house fire in east London, the Metropolitan Police has said.

Police were called to a property in Oval Road North in Dagenham at 5.40pm on Saturday to reports of a fire.

Firefighters and paramedics also attended and, after forcing entry, found the body of a man in his 70s.

Police are still working to inform his next of kin.

The fire is being treated as suspicious, with murder detectives leading the police investigation.

Police have not said what offence the suspect is accused of but he remains in custody.
